Summary

Are you an experienced, enthusiastic Director who would love to collaborate with amazing parents, families, and children? Do you believe that a solid foundation in social emotional skills is the base for academic success and personal happiness? If so, then please consider leading our program at St. James Preschool which is a 4-star Colorado Shines program that serves children 2 � to 5 years of age. St. James offers a 4-hour day with 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-day options from September through May. Our program?s foundation is in social emotional development with a holistic, hands-on, play-based approach to learning. The Director we are seeking must have a background and experience in Early Childhood Education and in administration. We value strong collaborative leadership skills and the ability to build nurturing, positive relationships with children and adults.

Duties

  • The Director is responsible for the administration of the program throughout the calendar year in accordance with the mission, philosophy, core purpose, and core values of St James Preschool under the supervision of the Preschool Board. The Preschool Board is the governing body of the preschool. This is a salaried position. 
Primary Responsibilities  
Administration of Program:   
  • Provide visionary, collaborative leadership. 
  • Responsible for the overall goals, growth, and curriculum of the program. 
  • Uphold all state licensing requirements. 
  • Ensure proper group size and ratios for child supervision resulting in a high level of consistency and continuity of care. 
  • Supervise maintenance of files and records following state licensing requirements.
  • Monitor public policy and its impact on the preschool. 
  • Supervise and/or maintain website keeping information current. 
  • Communicate all aspects of the program to the parents, teachers, and church through various means such as posting on the website, creating newsletters, submitting information to the church newsletter, etc.
  • Conduct the registration and enrollment of the students including management of a waitlist, as necessary. 
  • Perform classroom observations regularly. 
  • Provide classrooms with appropriate materials and supplies. 
  • Monitor the safe condition of the school, making sure classrooms, storerooms, and playground are kept in compliance with best practice and meet licensing standards.
  • Support collaborative, community events which may include a fall kick-off party, fundraisers, parent and staff orientation, and other special events. Provide information for the monthly preschool and church newsletter. 
  • Act responsibly as a member of the St. James community. 
  • Provide a loving and caring environment for all children, parents, and staff. 
 
Financial  
  • Prepare an annual budget to be approved by the Church Session and Preschool Board. 
  • Assist the preschool?s accounting consultant in preparing monthly and annual financial reports for the Board using Quick Books. 
  • Recommend tuition and salary schedules to the Board for the program year.
  • Collect and record all registration and tuition fees for the program. 
  • Manage the Grace Scholarship Fund. 
  • Supervise budget expenditures and ordering of supplies and equipment. 
  • Supervise the preparation of monthly payroll. 
  • Record invoices and credit card expenditures in Quick Books and send a request for payment to the church bookkeeper. 
Board  
  • Work with Board Facilitator to develop monthly agendas. 
  • Collaborate with Board for agenda for annual the state of school meeting.
  • Make recommendations to the Board on improvements for all areas of the program. 
  • Provide information to the Board so that informed decisions regarding program and policy can be made.
  • Attend monthly board meetings and keep board members informed about preschool news.
 
Staff and Curriculum:  
  • Regularly supervise, support, and provide guidance as well as evaluate staff using a reflective supervision model. 
  • Provide support for the staff in our three foundational curriculum frameworks (Pyramid Training, Conscious Discipline, Creative Curriculum), which promote the value of developing social competence as a major goal for the preschool.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings, planning meetings, and continual training to assist each employee in completing 15 hours of professional development required by state regulations. 
  • Keep teachers informed about current workshops, classes, informative articles, and books. 
  • Make staffing decisions. 
  • Provide support and coverage for parent/teacher conferences and/or when special needs arise in the classroom. 
  Families and Children:  
  • Greet families and children during the opening and closing of the program and as needed during the day. 
  • Partner with families for the best outcomes of children?s development, learning, and growth. 
  • Encourage parent involvement in the program. 
  • Strengthen parent partnerships by providing informative meetings and opportunities for school-wide gatherings to build community.
  • Provide parent education classes, including positive discipline classes using Conscious Discipline resources.
Church and Community:  
  • Attend church staff meetings. 
  • Submit annual reports to the church, monthly session ministry briefing reports, and make a yearly presentation to the church session. 
  • Represent the preschool in the community. 
  • Attend, whenever possible, community events that may directly or indirectly benefit the preschool. 
  • Keep informed of current developments in the field of Early Childhood Education (E.C.E.) and be an advocate of E.C.E. in the community. 
  • Promote healthy partnerships with Arapahoe Community College, Children?s Advisory Network, Arapahoe County Early Childhood Council, or any other potential community partnerships that would benefit the preschool, early childhood education or young families. 
Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

Requirements

  • Director qualification letter from Colorado
  • A minimum of either an Associate?s Degree with a major in Early Childhood Development, a Bachelor?s Degree in Education, or equivalent. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a teacher
  • Experience as director with preschool-age children as required by Colorado Human Services Rules Regulating Childcare Center 
  • Leadership experience with an ability to lead with a collaborative style. 
  • Experience in administration and financial management. 
  • Knowledge of and interest in an experiential approach to curriculum development, an understanding of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood, and a belief in the power of play. 
  • Believe that social emotional development is foundational in the preschool years
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Preschool Board of Directors
  • Working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Word, Canva, MailChimp, Publisher, Excel, and Quick Books. 
  • Ability to relate well with children, parents, and staff, valuing nurturing relationships. 
  • Pass Background Check
  • Must pass health screening.

  • This position is 10.5 months (August through mid-June) paid on a 12-month schedule. Summer Camp (if held) is additional pay.

St. James Preschool is located in Littleton, Colorado and serves children ages 2 � to 6 years old. We are a play based preschool and provide a caring, supportive Christian environment where children can grow in all domains of their development. Our highly qualified staff are committed to nurturing relationships with children and their families.

Our program runs from 9:30 am ? 1:30 pm Monday through Friday, and we offer 2 day, 3 day, and 5 day options for families.
