SYSCOM is seeking an experienced
Senior Red Hat Linux System Administrator for a long-term engagement with one of our valued clients. This is an exciting hybrid opportunity to contribute to impactful technology initiatives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Work location: Work shall be performed in a hybrid setting each week, Monday through Friday, with
2 days remote at a suitable off-site location (i.e. home office) and
3 days per week onsite at the client office in Annapolis, MD 21401. Additional on-site support may be required, and the Linux Administrator must be able to report on-site within 24 hours after notification.
Job duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: - Installing, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers across development, testing, and production environments.
- Performing system upgrades, patch management, and security hardening to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime and optimize efficiency.
- Implementing automation scripts using Ansible, Bash, or Python to streamline system administration tasks.
- Configuring and maintaining Red Hat Satellite, Identity Management (IdM), and other Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) ecosystem tools.
- Collaborating with security teams to ensure systems are protected against vulnerabilities and comply with security policies.
- Maintaining and optimizing storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Supporting application teams by providing guidance on best practices for Linux-based deployments.
- Maintaining documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participating in on-call support and incident resolution activities as required.
- Setup Network File Server (NFS) and mount points.
- Configuring Chron jobs for both systems and applications.
The candidate must meet the following minimum qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree, or postgraduate degree, in engineering, computer science, or related field.
- Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator - Certification must be issued by Red Hat and include the resource’s valid certification number.
- Ten (10) or more years of experience as a Red Hat system administrator.
- Ability to provide three (3) professional business references.
The following skills are highly desired and the ideal candidate will possess the following: - Ten (10) or more years of experience as a Red Hat system administrator.
- Ten (10) or more years of experience administering Unix (AIX) IBM pSeries systems.
- Fifteen (15) or more years of experience in the Information Technology (IT) field.
The resource shall possess the following preferred skills, experience, and capabilities: - Experience working in a complex networked system environment with strong networking and experience administering Unix (AIX) IBM pSeries systems.

- Oracle WebLogic Servers
- Oracle Database Servers
- Progress 4GL/Database Servers/OpenEdge
- Apache Web Servers
- Sphere hosted RHEL Servers.
- Rubrik backup systems.
- Oracle Database backups.
- PeopleSoft
- Mobius
- Elastic Search
- Oracle OBI
- CVS (Concurrent Version System)
- Red Hat performance tuning.
- Load balancing, partitioning, back-up/recovery, and disaster recovery.
- Working in an environment that requires 24/7 system availability.
- Application development.
- Red Hat Support.
- Electronic Imaging Support.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external personnel.
- Demonstrate leadership skills.
- Interface with users and helpdesk for day-to-day support.
- Provide Backup/recovery and networking methodologies.
- Troubleshoot at the Operating System (OS), database, and application levels.
- Knowledge of Red Hat administration including configuration and tuning.
